Did the Hollywood screenwriters of the new Ghostbusters really want to portray Muslims truthfully or did they want a Muslim “consultant” to tell them what they wanted to hear? Desperately wanting to hear that Islam is a religion of peace and Mohammad was a great example for all for mankind.
‘It’s about valuing their audience’: why Ghostbusters called in a Muslim ‘cultural consultant’
The spooky comedy franchise may seem an unlikely place to find an ethnicity and faith adviser, but productions are increasingly aware of a duty to make sure communities are truthfully represented
The “sensitivity reader” is a well-established, if controversial, figure in the publishing world, offering advice on whether a book’s content might cause offence. The film and TV industry has also been forced to confront similar issues, with “intimacy coordinators” now widely employed to ensure that filmed sex scenes neither harm the actors nor outrage audiences. Perhaps less well-known, but now gaining ground in film and TV, is the role of a “cultural consultant” – advisers taken on by productions to help them navigate the choppy waters of sensitivities around ethnicity and faith.
Sajid Varda, founder and CEO of media charity UK Muslim Film and director of the UK’s inaugural Muslim international film festival, recently completed an assignment on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the latest instalment of the popular and long-running series of supernatural comedies. Varda says the key to such roles is “authenticity”; it is, he says “not just saying what is wrong with this, but how can we make it better and improve it?”
The keyword there is “authenticity”. Which means I will use the Sahih (authentic words and deeds of Mohammad) Ahadith in order to portray who he really was.

As an example of what he is trying to head off, Varda points to the BBC TV series Bodyguard, which was criticised at the time for its portrayal of Muslim women. “As soon as that came out, we saw the impact it was having. The next day I could see there was a feeling of unease among hijab-wearing Muslim women on the Underground and in the streets; there was definitely a feeling to be there to protect them, which shouldn’t really have to be the case.”
“I don’t feel that that it’s something the film and TV industry can afford. The Muslim world is a huge market, two billion people, and it’s largely untapped. It’s a world waiting for great mainstream content that speaks to them, where their values are appreciated, and that reflects them. But whether it’s for the Black community, south Asian, south-east Asian, the Muslim community, the Jewish community, the Christian community, you really do need to make sure that you get it right, because then you are building the foundation for a brilliant relationship with your viewers.”
The Muslim “consultant” is preying that Hollywood greed takes precedence over truth.
In order to authentically portray Mohammad we need to examine the Sahih Ahadith while remembering that Koran verse 33:21 instructs Muslims to follow his actions for all times.
I will now break down my accurate portrayal of Mohammad into two categories. The first being that he was a pervert. One who married a child, had sex with who was his daughter-in-law, and encouraged his men to impregnate captives of war.
Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married ‘Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.
At the time of the “marriage” Mohammad was over 50 years-old. Other than being a pedophile, why would a man of that age marry a girl of six? To add to this horror show Mohammad admitted he had lust filled dreams of her at an even earlier age.
Allah’s Apostle said to me, “You were shown to me twice (in my dream) before I married you. I saw an angel carrying you in a silken piece of cloth, and I said to him, ‘Uncover (her),’ and behold, it was you. I said (to myself), ‘If this is from Allah, then it must happen.
When you think of a human being carried in a cloth, what do you think of? A baby. That is who.
Unfortunately this scene is not over.
Bukhari Hadith Volume 8, Book 73, Number 151: Narrated ‘Aisha:
I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah’s Apostle used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for ‘Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.) (Fateh-al-Bari page 143, Vol.13)
Next we move onto the fact that Mohammad had sex with who was his daughter-in-law.
And when (idh is dependent because of [an implied preceding] udhkur, ‘mention [when]’) you said to him to whom God had shown favour, by [guiding him to] Islam, and to whom you [too] had shown favour: by manumitting him — this was Zayd b. Hāritha, who had been a prisoner of war before [the coming of] Islam (in the period of al-jāhiliyya). The Messenger of God (s) purchased him before his call to prophethood, and then manumitted him and adopted him as his son — ‘Retain your wife for yourself and fear God’, before divorcing her. But you had hidden in your heart what God was to disclose, [what] He was to manifest of your love for her and of [the fact] that should Zayd part with her you would marry her, and you feared people, would say, ‘He has married his son’s wife!’, though God is worthier that you should fear Him, in all things, so take her in marriage and do not be concerned with what people say. Zayd subsequently divorced her and her [obligatory] waiting period was completed. God, exalted be He, says: So when Zayd had fulfilled whatever need he had of her, We joined her in marriage to you — the Prophet consummated his marriage with her without [the customary] permission [from her legal guardian] and gratified the Muslims with [a feast of] bread and meat — so that there may not be any restriction for the believers in respect of the wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have fulfilled whatever wish they have of them. And God’s commandment, that which He has decreed, is bound to be realised.
Even after marrying a child, and his daughter-in-law, Mohammad was still not satisfied. So in his attempt to fulfill his sexual addiction he took sex slaves.
Koran 33:50
YUSUFALI: O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
As if that were not bad enough he also encouraged his men to take their own and even impregnate them.

I entered the Mosque and saw Abu Said Al-Khudri and sat beside him and asked him about Al-Azl (i.e. coitus interruptus). Abu Said said, “We went out with Allah’s Apostle for the Ghazwa of Banu Al-Mustaliq and we received captives from among the Arab captives and we desired women and celibacy became hard on us and we loved to do coitus interruptus. So when we intended to do coitus interrupt us, we said, ‘How can we do coitus interruptus before asking Allah’s Apostle who is present among us?” We asked (him) about it and he said, ‘It is better for you not to do so, for if any soul (till the Day of Resurrection) is predestined to exist, it will exist.”

LW: Apparently Mohammad was for dieversity over diversity.
LW: Now we head to the final seen of the movie. A scene which shows us just how heartless and cruel Mohammad was. Hold onto your seats movie viewers!
LW: Personally I have not seen the new Ghostbusters, but I will go out on a limb here and say that it didn’t accurately portray the Muslim who Muslims are supposed to emulate.
LW: If you are going to tell me that not all Muslims behave that way, I am going to you that all Muslims support Mohammad by taking the shahada. Portray that.
