They’ll never understand we want a life of purpose and meaning; we want our death to mean something, not just outliving our usefulness. Into that uselessness, that age gives us give me a death, a battle I can’t win. Give me hopeless odds to save myself, but to save my family and my friends in my country. That is what I want. A painful, hard-fought achievement that saves the people I love.
