Logan’s Warning accepts the Huffington Post’s Kashif N. Chaudhry Rebuttal Challenge
Tonight I posted the following statement on Facebook, which was also posted on my Twitter account through an auto-feed.
#ISpeakOutBecause I just spoke to @ISpeakOut_ on Twitter, and they would not condemn Islam for allowing child marriages, lashings, sex slavery, and Mohammad stating he would drive all Christians and Jews out of the Arabian Peninsula. But they did manage to call me ISIS and block me. lol #Islam #ISIS #NAI (Logan)
Not too long after posting the comment I received a Tweet from the Huffington Post’s Kashif N. Chaudhry.
As you can see he stated Islam did not allow the vile actions I had mentioned, and linked me to the following article.
During a brief conversation in which he ducked numerous points on Islam, he challenged me to write a rebuttal.
So here is where I expose just what kind of “humanitarian” he is.
KC:
The Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram recently kidnapped young girls, allegedly to sell into sexual slavery. Extremist Muslim clerics and extreme critics of Islam have long shared the conviction – amongst some others – that Islam allows keeping slaves, at least in certain circumstances, and permits their rape. This myth is completely unfounded.
I guess it is “unfounded” if you ignore Koranic verse 4:24. In our Twitter talk he is was against me using a tafsir, which he stated was just commentary on the Koran.
But the fact is that it is a scholarly interpretation and explanation of it. Kashid doesn’t like it because it just buries his argument. But he does not get to dictate what evidence I use. So I will using numerous translations of Koran, the world renowned Tafsir al-Jalalayn, and Sahih Ahadith to prove my points.
Sahih International
And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. [This is] the decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.Muhsin Khan
Also (forbidden are) women already married, except those (captives and slaves) whom your right hands possess. Thus has Allah ordained for you. All others are lawful, provided you seek (them in marriage) with Mahr (bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) from your property, desiring chastity, not committing illegal sexual intercourse, so with those of whom you have enjoyed sexual relations, give them their Mahr as prescribed; but if after a Mahr is prescribed, you agree mutually (to give more), there is no sin on you. Surely, Allah is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.Pickthall
And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess. It is a decree of Allah for you. Lawful unto you are all beyond those mentioned, so that ye seek them with your wealth in honest wedlock, not debauchery. And those of whom ye seek content (by marrying them), give unto them their portions as a duty. And there is no sin for you in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath been done). Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.Yusuf Ali
Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess: Thus hath Allah ordained (Prohibitions) against you: Except for these, all others are lawful, provided ye seek (them in marriage) with gifts from your property,- desiring chastity, not lust, seeing that ye derive benefit from them, give them their dowers (at least) as prescribed; but if, after a dower is prescribed, agree Mutually (to vary it), there is no blame on you, and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.
As you can plainly see, right hands possess means captives of war (war booty) taken for sex slavery.
Further made clear in the Tafsir al-Jalalayn.
Koran verse 4:24 (Altafsir.com)
And, forbidden to you are, wedded women, those with spouses, that you should marry them before they have left their spouses, be they Muslim free women or not; save what your right hands own, of captured [slave] girls, whom you may have sexual intercourse with, even if they should have spouses among the enemy camp, but only after they have been absolved of the possibility of pregnancy [after the completion of one menstrual cycle]; this is what God has prescribed for you (kitāba is in the accusative because it is the verbal noun). Lawful for you (read passive wa-uhilla, or active wa-ahalla), beyond all that, that is, except what He has forbidden you of women, is that you seek, women, using your wealth, by way of a dowry or a price, in wedlock and not, fornicating, in illicitly. Such wives as you enjoy thereby, and have had sexual intercourse with, give them their wages, the dowries that you have assigned them, as an obligation; you are not at fault in agreeing together, you and they, after the obligation, is waived, decreased or increased. God is ever Knowing, of His creatures, Wise, in what He has ordained for them.
KC:
Slavery was the norm in the Arabia that Prophet Muhammad opened his eyes in. Anyone who could afford to buy a slave, kept one. Unfortunately, these slaves – especially girls – had no dignified status in society. They were bought and sold like property. They were overworked, abused and looked down upon as inferior beings.
Deeply troubled by this social injustice, Prophet Muhammad set out to emancipate slaves. He did not do this with the stroke of a pen. Letting the slaves go free, have to fend for themselves, be homeless and form separate isolated settlements would likely ensure freedom – but not equal rights and status. Hence, Prophet Muhammad embraced the slaves instead, assimilated them into society and made them useful contributors to the growing Muslim community. He uplifted them and ousted their inferiority complex. He instructed the Muslims to free the slaves who could stand on their own feet and forbade slave trade at all costs. He taught that all humans were equal and so it was not proper to address a slave as a “slave.” He said:
Let none of you call out to his slave saying, ‘My slave boy!’ or ‘My slave girl!’ nor let a slave call out to his master saying, ‘My Lord!’ but let the master call out to the slave saying, ‘My young man!’ or ‘My young woman!’ and let the slave call out to the master as ‘My chief!’
As we look at the outrageous comments I emboldened, we see that he offers the readers no proof whatsoever. He thinks we should just blindly take his word.
If Islam forbade slavery why did all those translations above encourage taking captives of war as slaves?
If Mohammad taught that all humans were equal why did he say this?
Sahih Al-Bukhari, Al-Adab al-Mufrad 1103;
Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Do not give the People of the Book the greeting first. Force them to the narrowest part of the road.”
Or this?
Sahih Muslim Hadith Book 019, Number 4366:
It has been narrated by ‘Umar b. al-Khattib that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.
Wait…at the beginning of all this Kashif implied Mohammad never said that. Could Kashif be trying to pull the wool over our eyes!?
Back to KC:
Islam offered many ways for former slaves to be integrated into society. One such means was marriage. No Arab noble would ever have conceived of marrying a slave, but Prophet Muhammad broke this taboo with his own example. He inspired a brand new way of thinking in Arab society. He taught:
He who has a slave-girl, educates and treats her nicely and then manumits and marries her will get a double reward.
Talk about coercion. Marry me and give your body to the slave owner whenever he demands it….
Koran verse 2:223:
Sahih International
Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth [righteousness] for yourselves. And fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And give good tidings to the believers.Muhsin Khan
Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth (have sexual relations with your wives in any manner as long as it is in the vagina and not in the anus), when or how you will, and send (good deeds, or ask Allah to bestow upon you pious offspring) before you for your ownselves. And fear Allah, and know that you are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give good tidings to the believers (O Muhammad SAW).Pickthall
Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will, and send (good deeds) before you for your souls, and fear Allah, and know that ye will (one day) meet Him. Give glad tidings to believers, (O Muhammad).Yusuf Ali
Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will; but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And know that ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give (these) good tidings to those who believe.
Or stay a slave. Such choices… Islam the gift that keeps on giving.
At this point we see that Kashif “the humanitarian” Chaudhry is OK with coercion, what is basically a forced marriage, and with there being no such thing as marital rape under Islam. What a sport!
Back to KC:
While Prophet Muhammad was starting this social revolution in Arabia, he found himself in a very hostile environment. Muslims were persecuted for over a decade in Mecca. They were boycotted, thrown out of the city and forced to migrate to Medina. Prophet Muhammad’s enemies were persistent and pursued him there as well. Just two years after his emigration, a thousand-man strong army marched out of Mecca with the intent to finish the Muslims forever. It was at this time that fighting was first permitted in self-defense (2:190). The Muslims, only 300 in number, defended themselves and won this battle decisively at Badr. Muslims had to counter many more offensives. Thus, Prophet Muhammad laid down clear rules and regulations for warfare. No women, children, elderly, monks, worship places and trees, for example, were to be hurt during fighting.
Once again Kashif has numerous claims. But why didn’t he substantiate them?
Because the truth is that Mohammad said it was OK to kill women and children in night raids.
Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4321:
It is reported on the authority of Sa’b b. Jaththama that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him), when asked about the women and children of the polytheists being killed during the night raid, said: They are from them.
What he fails to mention about the worship places is that Muslims can just seize them as war booty.
Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4346:
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: If you come to a township (which has surrendered without a formal war) and stay therein, you have a share (that will be in the form of an award) in (the properties obtained from) it. If a township disobeys Allah and His Messenger (and actually fights against the Muslims) one-fifth of the booty seized therefrom is for Allah and His Apostle and the rest is for you.
Why does Kashif continually make statements that are so easily refuted? Does he prey on naïve and trusting non-Muslims?
Koran 59:5:
Sahih International
Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks – it was by permission of Allah and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.Muhsin Khan
What you (O Muslims) cut down of the palm-trees (of the enemy), or you left them standing on their stems, it was by Leave of Allah, and in order that He might disgrace the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).Pickthall
Whatsoever palm-trees ye cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah’s leave, in order that He might confound the evil-livers.Yusuf Ali
Whether ye cut down (O ye Muslim!) The tender palm-trees, or ye left them standing on their roots, it was by leave of Allah, and in order that He might cover with shame the rebellious transgresses.
To further prove my point we will take a look at what Sahih Muslim has to say on the matter.
Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4324:
It is narrated on the authority of ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) ordered the date-palms of Banu Nadir to be burnt and cut. These palms were at Buwaira. Qutaibah and Ibn Rumh in their versions of the tradition have added: So Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, revealed the verse:” Whatever trees you have cut down or left standing on their trunks, it was with the permission of Allah so that He may disgrace the evil-doers” (lix. 5).
Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4325:
It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) caused the date-palms of Banu Nadir to be cut down and burnt. It is in this connection that Hassan (the poet) said:
It was easy for the nobles of Quraish to barn Buwaira whose sparks were flying in all directions.
in the same connection was revealed the Qur’anic verse:” Whatever trees you have cut down or left standing on their trunks.”

Considering Kashif could not even formulate a sentence in order to refute my rebuttal, I see no reason to take the time to write up part ll.
