Once again we see Islam being brought into the workplace. Today we learn that Minnesota Vikings safety Husain Abdullah, has decided that fasting and playing at a lower level, is more important than giving it his all for the team.
Even while sprinting in the heat and humidity during drills, sometimes in full pads, Abdullah is adamant about his faith. He will not allow himself so much as a cup of water until the sun sets and before it rises.
“I’m putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion,” Abdullah said. “This is something I choose to do, not something I have to do. So I’m always going to fast.
Unfortunately the team is foolishly going along with this.
“Last year it occurred in early September, and we saw a dip in his performance,” coach Brad Childress said. “We said, ‘What’s wrong with Husain Abdullah? It doesn’t seem like he has enough spunk.
“I think we have our arms around it now and know when he is going to wake up and when he is going to eat and what we can pack on him before the sun comes up.”
Obviously he is not a team player, and hopefully his teammates will let him know this.

It’s going to be hard to combat positive laws designed for special interest groups because they are all around us and exist for every group.
A Natural law is a law that’s just, a positive law is a law designed for a particular society, positive laws are not bad in themselves, but when they violate a natural law, they turn dangerous, because it results in might makes right.
Positive laws are also non-binding so they can change depending on how the demographics of a culture change.

I think we compromised our Christianity a long time ago when we allowed sports to supersede our religious obligations on Sundays. I have seen a lot of parents have to decide what was more important – Sunday worship or the kids’ soccer practice. Frankly, I think Christians did the wrong thing. We should have stood our ground. Now look… Sunday is the same as any other day. People are more tired and weary than ever before. I am as guilty as anyone but I do not think we have made the best decisions.

The NFL actually changed the start time of a Jets game because of complaints that the team had played late games on two straight Jewish holidays. ESPN also moved up the start of the Sox/Yanks game last year in honor of Yom Kippur.

I feel that this kind of religious conviction and putting God before all makes some Christians really jealous because they believe in God as well but not always honest enough to admit that Christians and especially their religious leaders have sold out God’s religion over time after the passing of Jesus Christ, the annointed one. It’s disgusting to see how much all of you guys have compromised your religious beliefs, saying that they should be superceded by some sport. I love football just as much as the next guy (Bengal’s fan), but to say that the man who is fasting is wrong is, well, ridiculous.
In our supposedly errant scriptures, the imperative is clear:
You will do no work on Sunday.
I had no idea “Christians” focused so much on football.
Did you not notice that we do not care for your God? He deserves no special treatment.
So… it’s not against the rules to handle ‘the pigskin’ for a living?
Another stupid Muslim law. Nonsense is what they worship.
On the day when whichever god you believe in calls it a day lets see what will be more important to him. Being faithful to him or playing a sport.
I just wanted to say that Mr. Abdullah is trying real hard to balance religion with football. In the USA being a Muslim and being successful is hard, but he is showing us that he won’t let his religion stop him from becoming an athlete and nor will he let football stop him from being Muslim. Besides this shows true strength in someone when they do something while maintaining a relationship with God. How many people do you know who can do both? Honestly whether he fasts or not he is a very talented athlete. Mashallah!
More and more non-Muslims are getting sick of Muslims in America, putting Islam before all. We will continue to speak out against Islam.
