‘SOUTH PARK’: Bill Maher to radical Muslims: Freedom of speech is ‘not negotiable’
On “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart relatively soft-pedaled his defense of fellow Comedy Central employees, “South Park’s” Matt Stone and Trey Parker, against a group of Muslim critics. Over at HBO this weekend, though, Bill Maher wasn’t holding anything back.
On his show “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the show’s every-incendiary host opined during his segment “The Rules”:
“When South Park got threatened last week by Islamists incensed at their depiction of Muhammad, it served — or should serve — as a reminder that our culture isn’t just different than one that makes death threats to cartoonists. It’s better.”
In his defense of the First Amendment and other Americal civil liberties, Maher — who made the film “Religulous” — continued: “The Western world needs to make it clear: Some things about our culture are not negotiable. And can’t change. And one of them is freedom of speech, Separation of church and state is another.”
Maher’s comedic kicker to the segment: “If you don’t get that, and you still want to kill someone over a stupid cartoon, please make it Garfield.”
I am no fan of Bill Maher, but he actually understands the clash of cultures that is happening between Islam, and the West. Maybe some more George Bush haters will wake up now, and realize that Islam is a real threat. Nah….I doubt it.
Wow….i am surprised he actually stood up for America for once!
Me too, as for his show I cannot stand it.
I HAVE NEVER WATCHED A SINGLE EPISODE!
I can't stand him either , but this impressed me.
…..and I do like Garfield.
Blackboot Jack,
I will link to you as soon as I speak to my security technician guy. After the last attack here, he closed up the sidebars. I cannot change a thing in them, without talking to him.
Kansas Girl, you're an utter moron. The Republican's did a great job "protecting us" on 9/11 didn't they?
Namecalling only serves to invalidate your rebuttal. How bout the job Obama did protecting the troops at Fort Hood back in DEC? Then there is the lovely job Obama's administration is doing, whitewashing the threat to our Nation, not allowing an islamic jihadi (aka a TERRORIST) to be called what he truly is. But yeah, let's blame it all on Republicans, because obviously, using liberal logic (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), Bush is the reincarnation of Hitler. </sarc>
Please send Belladonna my best.
I think you need to read Kansagirl's comment again. She said "Maher is scared ssssless . He knows which political party will actually protect him : "Republican". And folks, it won't be zero "Obama" and the commies "Obama's Communist buddies".
That's what I get from her statement.
Obama is not doing such a great job either. Besides the Foot Hood attack, the only reason that the Christmas Day, and Times Square plots did not go off as planned, was pure luck on our behalf.
And the general stupidity of arselifters.
You're an idiot, the attacks on 911 were planned, scouted, tested and financed during the Clinton years. 911 happened only a few months that Pres. Bush was in office. In fact, the Clintons staffers destroyed many of the offices and furniture which left the new incoming administration with extra work.
But I'm sure they don't teach you that in publik skool.

In this fight against Islam, we'll take allies wherever we can. I appreciate Chris' blog because he does post all types of people's comments. My church goes after Islam all the time, but we are not the 'type' of Christians others expect. Or we are Christians and they are not, or we are just very unpopular, even hated, and they don't want to be, so they have nothing to do with us.
Madness. America is so divided. You would think we could at least stand together on the most important, most obviously dangerous threat to America, to our future, to our children and grandchildren, the most oppressive violent political system the devil ever managed to seduce humanity with. Or are we all just a bunch of comfortable American cowards trying to protect our own little worlds….
I am also agreeable with the idea of uniting against islam, but maybe you could avoid bringing satan into the conversation?
We are fighting a tyrannical ideology, so this is actually a political fight, not a metaphysical one.
Both sides claiming that the other side worships satan just clouds this very real issue.
Perhaps just call it evil.
Whenever Bill Maher says something outrageous, I am reminded how important our First Amendment really is. I often disagree with his atheistic perspective on the world, but I respect him for saying what others are afraid to mention. One time a heckler in the audience was disrupting the show, and Bill actually leaped off the stage to go silence the guy. He said, "This is MY show." How many TV personalities have that kind of courage?
He also did pretty good with Hirsi Ali when he had her on with the Arab loving Issa.
STOP ALL MUSLIM IMMIGRATION NOW!!!!!
CL: So glad to see someone standing up for Bill Maher. I don't agree with everything he says, but he's been screaming about Islam for quite a while. I'm surprised they haven't tried to kill him yet. I'm sure he's on someone's list, hope he has security. Much of his rants against Islam revolve around the treatment of women. He did this hilarious sketch a couple of years ago where he had a Muslim fashion show where all the women were wearing shrouds. In his movie "Religilous," when they're talking about their stupid pet rock coming from god, he says "haven't you all ever heard of a meterorite?" I could go on about the wonderful work he does in fighting Islam.
And, yes, I know what they call their garments. I just refuse to use their words. It adds to the Islmashitzation of our culture. I call an Islamic headscarf, an Islamic headscarf, an Islamic holy war or death contract, an Islamic holy war or death contract. I DO NOT speak Islam. You can always speak in English and just qualify your noun with the word Islam. I've been meaning to write an essay on this, but never seem to get around to it.
I also use the names as seldom as possible. In the last couple of years or so I've learned more arabic words than I really care for. In my country we call the niqabis garbage bags and phantom blots (after the Disney character).
I also use the names as seldom as possible. In the last couple of years or so I've learned more arabic words than I really care for. In my country we call the niqabis garbage bags and phantom blots (after the Disney character).

Time to take out the garbage.
So that was Maher with the fashion show? LOL!
As for refusing to use their words, here are my personal rules on that. Arselifters demand respect. But they do nothing to earn it. I have an extreme dislike for attitudes like that so I never show they any respect.
I don't capitalise their words, and I try and make as fun as possible. So its islam although I seldom use that word. I used to call it pislam a lot but lately I've switch to using hislam (taking the idea from feminists and their herstory concept).
And there's no q in arabpig, its written in an entirely different script. To me it looks a bit poncy using q in English, so I always use k. That is, phonetic spelling. So burka, koran, takiya, etc.
Lastly, a few years ago, I watched a documentary on Salman Rushdie and his book the Satanic Verses. During it, they made a comment that the hislamic prophet was called Mahound by the Crusaders. Apparently, it was an insulting name. Although I don't know what it means. I've been calling him that ever since.
Life of Brian – the islamic version. They're both good but I prefer the first one nonetheless.

Blessed are the religion of peacemakers? Damn splitters!
You don't have to follow anybody!! Yes we have!!!

I know that he has, I remember him bashing burqas, saying they look like bee hives. (Or something to that effect.) Like Fran says, we have to unite on this one issue.
Hi Fran,
I do not agree with every issue with several people. But I am here for the war against Islam. We have to unite against this common enemy.
Maher is scared ssssless. He knows which political party will actually protect him. And folks, it won't be zero and the commies.
Maher is a very sick man. Like all atheist, he feels intellectually superior. An Uberman. He is a dolt. An ignorant ass that believes his opinion reflect a truth. Frankly, listening him discourse on science, economics, or any discipline is painful. And his idea of comedy is like a book one has read a thousand times: an exaggerated observation of anther's belief, a distractant, an absurd insult. The audience laughs. It is painful in the extreme.
you should really stop projecting your feelings of intellectual superiority onto others
Like all Atheists, he has a right to feel intellectually superior. . . Pat, you need to lose that house-sized chip off your shoulder. Religion is an anachronism, and needs consigning to the annals of history, filed under “stupid ideas”.
Given the fact that you are clearly a religious person, listening to anyone discourse on science should be painful. Your pseudo-intellectual rant on Maher was pure masturbation on your part. You could almost be writing about yourself.
The nice thing about, freedom of speech, specially those how don't agree with Maher is, unlike islamists, he's not likely to want you dead or have you killed!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly Jack. And yes, Chris, Fran is right on. Anyone who is an enemy of pigsonthelawn is a friend of mine. This is indeed the biggest threat we face, Fran.
Gary, I appreciate your humor. I do do that too sometimes, that's why for the Islamashitzation. But your bastardization of their words is great. It causes me great concern the introduction of these words into our lexicon.
One thing we've probably all noticed is that libtards have a warped concept of reality. They certainly can't recognise the truth when they see it. The recent terrorist incident in NYC is another example.
Anything that irks them is fine by me. And everything seems to do that.
I agree with your concerns. A decade ago, I'm sure hardly anyone would have heard of the word Sharia in the West. Now its almost every day. I wonder how many in the West really understand what it means, though.
I have to agree with tonto
It strikes me that such scum are like broken clocks, which may be correct at two distinct moments out of the day. The fact is this lowlife is so disgusting and poisonous to our society, I would not give him the credit for saying anything on my behalf, no way. I don't accredit drug smugglers and their customers, of which this piece of garbage is likely one, for providing one ounce of good to my country, nor do I give one ounce of credit to any Islamists or apologists thereof. These people should be exterminated from the face of this planet, and Bill Maher should be one of the first victims.
We can get our message out without the likes of scum like Bill Maher, and I wouldn't watch his show if you paid me. His brand of free speech in no way represents the intent or concepts embraced by our founding fathers or the constitution. He is lower than whale exrement, which lies at the bottoms of the oceans.
love your intolerance, spoken like another group that I thought we were all opposed to on this site, think about what you are saying 'should be exterminated from the face of this planet" where is your tolerance for fee speech? My be you could inlighten me on my astonishing ignorance..elmore
If everything you say about Maher is true
He's still a better American than you!
If everything you say about Maher is true

bringing the devil into the conversations hits the nail right on the head… its just normal lingo for Christians and Moslems …but find me on facebook or twitter and we can argue the point there…
An adaptation I did of a famous poem about Nazis by Pastor Martin Niem?ller.
Muslim outrage:
At first, the Muslims were outraged by cartoons but I didn't speak up because I wasn't an artist.
And then the Muslims were outraged by history books and news but I didn't speak up because I don't read much.
And then the Muslims were outraged by women who weren't completely veiled but I didn't speak up because I'm not a woman.
And then the Muslims were outraged by the practice of other religions but I didn't speak up because I'm not very religious.
And then the Muslims were outraged by the existence of Infidels so when they came for me … there was no one left to speak up.
The last line is the ultimate goal of Islam the rest are just steps towards that goal.
denialator, love your intolerance, spoken like another group that I thought we were all opposed to on this site, think about what you are saying 'should be exterminated from the face of this planet" where is your tolerance for fee speech? Except that's its not pronounced ma-hound so much as ma-hund (as a German would say it). Don't forget that at the time of the Crusades, Old English was spoken (as Geoff. Chaucer would have spoken it). Not that there were many Englishmen at the Crusades. I suspect it might have been the Franks or Germans who came up with it.
The word might be arabpig in origin. Probably best to ask an arabpig speaker.
I think you can also find the videos of Rushdie and the Satanic Verses on YouTube.
Everyone also have a right to their opinion. Who was it that said I may not agree with your opinions but I'll fight to the death to defend your right to say them?
If there's a war coming, don't expect arselifters to abide by the Geneva Conventions. They'll be out killing, raping, taking booty and slaves. The concept of prisoners of war is as alien to them as the concept of human rights.
Show them compassion and they think you're weak.
"they made a comment that the hislamic prophet was called Mahound by the Crusaders. Apparently, it was an insulting name. Although I don't know what it means"
Mahound, as in hound… dogs are unclean and considered evil according to the 7th century barbarians
Gary, I agree with you on islams intolerance, no argument here but wanting to compare Maher and islam as somehow both needing to be exterminated because they both somehow represent the same ideas is just not right. Maher may not agree with your religion but last I checked he wasn't sending out a divine mandate to have you kill for not believing what he says. Let's not take our eye off the real enemy, we got bigger problems then Maher the intertainer. One other thing unfortunately, it's not if but when the war is coming. elmore
Yes, passions can get easily inflamed with a subject as controversial as this.
Agree with your comment about when. I suspect it will be Iran. Anmadinnerjacket's recent UN speech was nothing but pure takiya. I couldn't help but make the comparison to Hitler. It was like the 1930s all over again. I suspect O'Bummer will play Chamberlain to the Iranian Hitler.
Thank you for saying this MikeE. One of the things I like about Logan's WArning is that he is civil and respectful of others even when he is viciously attacked. I was actually shocked to see someone giving Maher some credit for the great job he does on the threat of Islam. There are those on the left who hate him just as much as some on the right do for speaking out against Islam the way he does. Funny that.
Thanks Rose.
I mean atheists, not Olbermann.
Bill Maher supports only the Constitution that affect his self. He is only as reliable as muslim testimony and has the spine of a jellyfish. You need to take off blinders to see the whole picture.
