Survey: Two-thirds of Protestant pastors consider Islam ‘dangerous’
By Adelle M. Banks, Religion News ServiceTwo out of three Protestant pastors believe Islam is a “dangerous” religion, according to a new survey from a Southern Baptist-affiliated research group.
The survey of more than 1,000 Protestant clergy by LifeWay Research, released last week found that 45% strongly agree with the statement “I believe Islam is a dangerous religion” and another 21% agree somewhat with it.
Evangelical pastors were more likely to agree with the statement than mainline Protestant pastors — 77 to 47%. Likewise, pastors with a bachelor’s degree or less education are more likely to strongly agree than those with a master’s degree — 64% to 37%.
“It’s important to note our survey asked whether pastors viewed Islam as ‘dangerous,’ but that does not necessarily mean ‘violent,'” said Lifeway president Ed Stetzer in a statement about the survey results.
‘”Dangerous’ can be defined in a variety of ways, including from the perspective of spiritual influence. Regardless of the definition, the numbers tell us that Protestant pastors are concerned.”
The results of the telephone survey were based on a random sample of 1,002 senior pastors taken in October 2008 and had an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1percentage points.
On Dec. 10, evangelist Franklin Graham told CNN that while he loves the Muslim people in countries he’s visited with his Samaritan’s Purse ministry, “I don’t agree with the teachings of Islam and I find it to be a very violent religion.”
Graham’s comments prompted the Council on American-Islamic Relations to request a meeting with the evangelist. As of Friday (Dec. 18), he had not responded, said CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper.
It would be nice if the MSM media would actually do some research on Hooper, instead of continually acting like he has good intentions for America.
I agree very strongly that Islam is dangerous. Their goal is to subvert our government and then subject its people.
You would need to be real stupid not to know that Islam is dangerous. How many Pastors (sheperds) that are to protect the LORD's sheep, are protecting HIS sheep from the Emergant Ecumenical (Back to Babylon), that is why we do have Islam taking over in so-called Protestant Countrys…the sheep are stupid because the Pastors are stupid…they are not Pastors they are Hirelings! period
Some people do know that Islam is dangerous, but they do not say it out fear of "offending" Muslims.
I've always been puzzled about the way this notion of "offending" someone is seen as a knock-down argument. It's not.
When I was a practicing alcoholic my younger brother sat me down one night and told me some home truths. Was I "offended"? Of course I was. I didn't need my younger brother telling me how to live my life! I was capable of doing that on my own!
But every word he told me was the truth, and I'm glad he spoke up. It did me the world of good. If he hadn't said what he did for fear of "offending" me then I may not be here today. The truth is what it is.
And sometimes we need to hear it.
That only two-thirds of these pastors consider Islam as dangerous worries me. That number means one-third of them are dangerously ignorant of the most imminent threat to the Free World.
We still have a lot of educating to do my friend.
Great News..encouraging….!!! I do have a point to say about the Data reflecting that the Masters Degree holders were more prone -not reply Islam is a Danger- as opposed to the Bachelor Degree….I went to a Liberal Arts College and it truly is difficult to keep your head rational and clear with all the PC propaganda…and Liberalism shoved at you! Not to mention if you are not head of the class in GPA -have exemplary research papers turn in- excellent work consistently- You will be targeted and their anonymously reflected in your grades. I was lucky I was able to counter their indoctrination -speak my mind…because I was older when I finished my degree. Already had a head on my shoulders lolz- made myself Teflon.
So sadly my point is many fall into liberalism with a higher the education.

Lyn, that comment about the degrees's was just the a cheap shot by the media. Trying to imply that those with the lesser might think that Islam is dangerous because they are less educated. There was really no other reason to put that sentence in here.
I am not saying it is right, but many people clearly do not want to "offend" Muslims.

Thanks. It sounds to me like what is labeled as a 'useful idiot', but I could be wrong. I have read this stuff so much from liberal left wingers when they start bashing GWB, or Conservatives, or Republicans, or whoever the news and their teachers tell them to bash for that day. It gets very tiring – the same old mantras coming out of these guys and then they turn around and try to elude to some half-brained premise that the ones who disagree with them are the ones without an education.
They don't know their history, Islam's history, or I could go on about what they don't know. It is easier for them to bash. To deal with them we could either do the schoolyard mantra 'sticks and stones….' or we can try to educate them. Either way it is a shame.

The lawless, who lack a "peacefull" rule book by which to base their lives and interaction with their fellow human beings, are at fault here. I treat all as I would want to be treated. What you also don't understand is that all muslims MUST do Jihad and Jihad is taught 97% of the time as violence against the unbeliever. ALL Muslims must give zakat and there is a requirement that part of it go to fund their violent jihadists and even Muslim Brotherhood organizations such as MPAC, MSA/MSU, ISNA, ICNA, CAIR, etc.

What I want to know is what are these Pastors going to do about it? There has to be a more aggressive open 'debate' / attack against Islam by Christian Pastors and whole congregations. This is what Europe lacks and why they are loosing there….
