My Conversation with Islamophile Pastor Rick Warren

Recently I have been spending some time on Twitter engaging Muslims, and the non-Muslims who support Islam. Here is short conversation with Pastor Rick Warren. For those who do not know, Warren is a mega-Pastor who speaks at Islamic conferences. One of which was the 47Th annual Islamic Society of North America Convention (ISNA).

They preach as if they are so wise, and know it all, and then when you quote scripture or facts from the quoran, they’re suddenly silent?         There is a theroy that the Vatican wrote the Koran. They used it for “Gaining strenght by provoking assailants.” They used this principal right out of the Art Of War.             Regardless of denomination, the doctrines of Christianity are extremely clear.
            God’s creation of the cosmos and humanity.
            His redemption of humanity from sin by his Son, Jesus Christ.
            His sanctification of his entire creation through the power and persistent work of the Holy Spirit.
            These are not fantasies– they are held as true by Catholics, Orthodox, Evangenical, and all kinds of Protestant sects.
            As I see it, the only Protestants who have anything to fear from Islam because of weak doctrine are the non-Trinitarians.
            But I’ve spoken of their weaknesses before.

            Some time ago I wrote a lengthy email to Chris about the nature of anti-Catholicism in the U.S. and why it might be persistent. At the same time, to deny the primacy of the Catholic Church from A.D. 1 to about 1507 and to refuse to recognize that Christian armies fought against the Arab and Turk for centuries under its banner is just a sickening and profound ignorance of Christian history.

            I also want to make it clear that there is a Papal instruction written in 2004 forbidding the reading of any Islamic or non-Christian scriptures or the practice of any non-Christian doctrine in the liturgy of the Mass.
            The Koran will not be read in any Catholic church under the Pope.
            As I’ve said, sometimes a top-down organization has tremendous advantages against Islam.

    If you check this so-called pastor’s politics, you’ll probably find he’s as far left as Jessie Jacskon and Al Sharpton….the similarity and common ground between the far left and islam being they both demand a totalitarian approach to governing their areas. The only difference with this guy is that at least, he has an actual church that he’s pastor at.

    Not to surprising that he would duck this. I read his book Purpose Driven Life when it first came out and I always thought that he never really addressed anything directly, but has a great knack at avoiding reality. Side stepping the truth and “lukewarming” the gospel so as not to spark any controversy is just what the modern world wants. Nothing could be more repulsive to the God he claims to serve.

    Some Muslims are kind and considerate, and they do listen and convert. The truth is that the really nice or good Muslims are very much like the nice or good Christians. But this is because they, the nice or good Muslims, aren’t really following the evils that Islam teaches.

    The truth is that the nice or good Muslims don’t know that Islam calls for violence, cruelty, death and destruction. The true Muslims at this very moment are practicing Islam in Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan and in other backward Muslim Third World Countries. Notice what these true Muslims are doing: They are killing each other because they are following the Qur’an and other Muslim historical documents that call for violence, death and destruction.

    Let’s hope and pray that the nice and good Muslims may never learn Islam. Let’s hope they follow Jesus to the letter.

      When most Muslims I’ve been acquainted with met me, they’ve understood right away that I am a Christian and have a strong commitment to my own faith.
      So far, they have respected this part of my personal make up. I’ve never been told to my face that I am worshipping profanely, and I don’t show contempt for Islam if I am being treated with equity.
      I believe that good deeds and tolerance should be rewarded.
      Still, there is the dialogue that happens here, in which we state the doctrines of Christianity and how different they are from Islam. As Christians, we must think of Islam as profane, Muslims think the same of the body of Christian doctrine.
      There is no unity in diversity.
      The only protection diversity can count on is diversity itself.
      It’s a tall order that Americans have been up to fulfilling for the most part.
      God knows, though, just how this nation’s encounter with cultures that differ so radically from its very foundations will turn out.
      I want the Western foundations of our culture to survive and be dignified.

    I take from this post and your previous one that you definition of the term “islamophobia” is “someone who supports Islam”. So let me quote Rick’s response and allow the reader to decide whether or not your claim is accurate:

      I’m curious to know how you or Pastor Warren would respond to that.

    He “speaks at Islamic conferences”? Jesus visited the homes of sinners and was condemned by the Pharisees for that.

    To once more quote Warren “Jesus is the only way, and our inerrant Bible is our only true authority.” Is that not “condemning” Islam? Try saying that to a Muslim and see their response! True, Warren has not responded with condemnation, labeling them “enemies” I for one am glad. Jesus refused to label tax collectors and prostitutes “enemies” yet did not agree with the belief systems that led them to do what they did. His love challenged and overcame their false beliefs.

    Please continue to stand for God’s Truth. We hold that in common and you are my brother. But we can stand for Truth without being adversarial even if our opponent should choose that route. The greatest force for change in the world today is the love of Christ. Those who minister to Muslims will tell you that’s it’s this love that leads them to repentance. Not condemnation.

      Did Jesus praise the sinners? Condemning Islam means to come out and actually condemn it. He does not do that. “Christians” like Warren are part of the reason Islam advances, and Muslims walk all over the Christian community. I do not respect him.

        Firstly, I’m somewhat amused that you accuse me of “bringing in other content” when I merely referenced the link in his reply to you, and then immediately you introduce “other content” by way of the links you mention.

        But that aside, let me address the points made by Warren in the YouTube clip and see if they actually reveal him to be a “supporter of Islam”.

        He advocates freedom of religion. Nothing there about supporting Islam. Just a basic human right.
        He advocates a joint approach to achieving the UNs humanitarian millennial goals, not because he agrees with others beliefs but because a unilateral approach stands the greatest chance of succeeding. Again nothing about supporting Islam.
        He advocates working together across religious boundaries to overcome Aids. Again nothing about supporting Islam.
        He speaks against the emptiness of materialism and hedonism. Again nothing about supporting Islam.

        So your point was?

          That content of that link is IRRELEVANT as I did not ask him about Chrislam. Do you understand that yet? The rest of the conversation is what matters.

          If he were truly for freedom of religion, he would stand against Islam. If he did not support Islam, he would not have said combating stereotypes in the other link I posted. Do you need a blueprint?

      Dean, I do Minister to Muslims almost every single day of the year. From what you write I know your heart is in the right place. You do need to understand Islam better. Yes we need to love as Jesus does, however just as Jesus said to shake the dust when you aren’t welcome, you must understand to a devout Muslim when someone of Pastor Warrens stature address’s Islamic conferences, it is a sign of weakness. To them it signifies Allah and Muhammed are superior.

      AS Christians we must stand against evil. If you study Islam, as a Christian you can come to no other conclusion of Islam than it is evil.

        Thank you for your considered response Dan and may God bless you for your work to the Muslim community. I do not pretend to have more first hand knowledge than you clearly have.

        Firstly I have studied islam at college and I agree with you that Islam is “evil” in that it is contrary to God’s Truth. Secondly I agree that there is indeed a time to “shake the dust off ones feet and move on”. Thirdly if interfaith “anything” involves compromising the essential truth of the gospel then I am opposed to it. In short I am not a “Islamophile”.

        Thank you for your point regarding a perception of “weakness” when one addresses a conference. This was a new insight for me. The question I am left with though is, is this necessarily a bad thing? If obeying Christ makes me appear “weak” then I will gladly embrace weakness. Should we order our lives in such a way as to not appear weak to our enemies? Or should we order our lives according to what we believe to be right. I choose the latter.

          Warren quoted the Koran. Implying the God of Islam is the same as the God of Christianity.

          Islam expert Robert Spencer at JihadWatch.org, an organization dedicated to bringing public attention to jihad theology and defending Western society, criticized Warren for including a common refrain from Islam’s Quran – “You are the compassionate and merciful one.”.

          Thanks for your response Dean, now I get to explain. The weakness issue is very important. When a Muslim Brother or Sister even here in the USA, they risk EVERYTHING. Family, friends, careers, and yes in America even death.

          I know of a 16 year old Iranian/American who a close friend of mine was Ministering to. This young man accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. His family and friends made life very difficult for him before he was Baptized. He resisted his family, his friends, and continued growing in his Faith. Then he was Baptized.

          Nothing his family or friends did to him, which was considerable would make him convert back to islam. Against his will, they packed him up and sent him to relatives in Iran. He has managed very, very little contact in the year to year and a half he’s been there. He has paid a tremendous price for his Faith, if he is still alive.

          Christians have to allow the Love of Christ shine thru them, but if they are going to try and Minister to Muslims, they can not appear to appease Islam. Thats one reason most of former Muslims I know who found Jesus, are some of the most Devout, most outspoken Christians I’ve ever been around! They paid a huge price in their life on earth for their Faith! They are also the ones who are usually the most upset anytime a Minister appears to be appeasing Islam!

            Thank you again fro your response Dan. I’ve come across similar accounts and such people are inspiring to be sure. I advocate a “no compromise” to faith and yet I admit I fall far short of such a standard when I stand alongside such fine believers.

            Let me respond by raising a couple of points and asking for you thoughts. A Christian might (wrongly)interpret this as “weakness” on Islams part.

            Secondly, the content of Warren’s address was unequivocal. He supports people of all faiths working together to solve humanities problems. I quote: “You know as an evangelical pastor, my deepest faith is in Jesus Christ. But you also need to know that I am committed not just to what I call the good news, but I am committed to the common good.” He called on the members of the two largest faith communities in the world to not only figure out how to live in peace and harmony with each other, but also to find a way to work together for the greater good without compromising each group’s convictions.

            Let me ask you Dan, is there anything you disagree with here in what Warren is saying?

    Because of the commandments in the Qur’an, Hadith and especially in the Reliance of the Traveller its impossible. Look at o11.5 1-7 from the Reliance of the Traveller also at o8.0-.7. Remember when reading this it was published in 1991 and revised in 1994. It is THE Classic Sharia Law manual in use today for Sunni Muslims. When you add to that the Commandment for Christians to go out and spread the good news it is impossible. Please don’t misinterpet this to mean I think we should declare war on all Muslims. Nothing could be further from the truth I don’t.

    When I go to other Churches and speak, I purchase the Pastor a copy of The Reliance of The Traveller, The hadith of Bukhari Volumes 1-4, and the Qur’an translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, I believe if you read those you will understand what I am trying to say.

    As to your question of weakness, and it being a sign of weakness for the Muslim leaders by having Pastor Warren speak absolutly not. Anytime they are able to get a Pastor involved in “interfaith” dialoge it helps their cause. Remember Truth to Jesus is of utmost importance, therefore it is to Christians. Islam is not hampered by the truth. Muslims are instructed to lie to advance the cause of islam.

    Dean I’m not trying to just be critical of Pastor Warren, or make you feel differently about him. I only wish he and other Christian leaders would study Islam BEFORE they make comments about it. Before they address “Interfaith Conferences”. It would make my “job” already very difficult, much less difficult!

    Did Rick Warren quote the Qur’an in his inauguration prayer? NO! (and yes)

    It’s true he said the words “And you are the compassionate and merciful one.” and its true these words appear in the Qur’an.

    Now, if I call my waif the “compassionate and merciful one” and I offending her by quoting the Qur’an? I’m sure she’d say NO! KEEP GOING! He logic might be “The Qur’an said that in relation to Allah, but you are saying it in relation to ME!”

    So the person to whom the quote is directed is the deciding factor in whether it is wrong or OK to say those words.

    If Rick Warren has addressed his prayer to Allah then I would have serious concern. If he had addressed it to Allah and God (or Yahweh/Jehovah) I would have concerns too. So who does he address His prayer to? “Almighty God, our FATHER” (emphasis mine). Islam does not address God as Father. It is a peculiarly Christian term taught to us by no less than Jesus. And God describes our Father as “compassionate and merciful”… because he IS! And to say that we should desist from saying so simply because a false religion with spurious scriptures chose to include those words in their holy book is frankly baffling to me! Even more baffling is the implication that when we call our Father God compassionate and merciful we are somehow compromising the Christian faith leaves me speechless (and some might pray I stay that way!) ;-)

          The Nicene Creed asserts 3 things about the Christian Church:
          1. it is holy
          2. it is catholic (that means that it applies to everyone, its protections, its offer of salvation, knowledge of its doctrines etc.)
          3. it is apostolic.
          You cannot judge the conduct of an unbeliever differently than you would the conduct of someone who believes.
          2 standards for 2 people is not Christianity.
          It’s because you accommodate this kind of doublethink and groupthink that you can’t understand the threat Islam poses to the West.

      I usually assert that Islam is profane. I don’t view that as a condemnation.
      Rather, I view it as an unavoidable truth given the content of Christian doctrine, the scriptural instruction of Matthew 7, and on the basis of my own Western education, preferences and standards.
      Muslims fear nothing more than being judged by standards that are not their own, and that is why they are so imperialistic and intimidating.
      It is they who have yet to realize that they are merely one culture among many.
      It is they who must learn tolerance and to allow others to exist.
      So while I say that Islam is profane and Muslims are, by deduction misled, I also assert that Muslim righteousness, conquest, enslavement and submission to these are all evil.
      They are all fruit of the poisonous tree.
      And the tree cannot help but be poisonous.

    There is a probability that Dean = Rick Warren.

    My two cents: As a Christian I would not want to legitimize the Islamic movement by speaking at an Islamic conference as Mr. Warren did unless I was going to “preach” with passion the good news.

    This is the fatal flaw of anyone attempting to defend Mr. Warren in this regard. The word of GOD convicts the sinner. Mr. Warren did not impart the “Good News” (i.e. god as man/Jesus, death, burial and resurrection for atonement of sin) at the Islamic conference.

    To simply pray for the Islamic non-believers who attended the conference would have been better than what Mr. Warren did.

    GOD will Judge us. While I will stand convicted and ashamed, I will receive unmerited mercy for my faith is in Christ.

      Were I called to speak to Muslims I would speak only one sentence:
      Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
      Nothing else need suffice, because if Muslims learn to say these words with conviction, they will be saved.
      And the salvation of even one soul is better than simple earthly validation of the stranger’s beliefs.
      We are not living to validate Islam.
      We are living to speak of the salvation of a merciful God, who created all people and desires that all be redeemed.

    We are not talking about people here, we are talking about false religions. It is what we belive that is wrong. There is only one way. If we love people we must tell them the truth. There is onlly two choises. Heaven or Hell. If we don’t tell them the truth, we will be judged. You can’t stand on the fence an ignore your responsiblity to God. God never said we will have global peace. What is Rick Warren trying to do. Bring in the false church in Revelation. That is what it sounds like to me. We are nearing the end times and satan is on the war path deceving pastors who started out well and are falling in to the New Age movement. God help us.

      And many Muslims point to the quotation, “I come not to bring peace, but a sword.”
      The meaning of this statement is so clear from the context that the Muslim case falls through. Jesus clearly meant division and conflict. Christians and Westerners understand that these things can exist without war, and that they need not lead to war.

      Islam appeals to the oppressed because it tells them that they are superior, that they have the right to destroy those who might be more prosperous.

      Islam is a religion of war, war, and war.
      There is absolutely no peace and life in Islam. It is the peace of death.

    Been reading most of this dialogue about Warren’s (I believe to be well-intentioned but ignorant of what Muslims think) attempt to bring two religions out of hatred (or one, Islam) but I know enough about Muslims and the weakness test and also they are taught to lie to infidels and to get rid of us no matter what the action is.

    We won’t know what they’re REALLY planning or thinking, they will pretend.

    I do not see a “coming-together” of the two religions. To do so for a Muslim is to no longer be Muslim.

    As far as that analogy of dusting our feet off when speaking to a non-Christian and it being okay to hang with them, the tax collector and other sinners were not ultimately out to kill Jesus as Muslims ultimate plan is.

    Read 23 years by a Muslim who wanted his book to come out post-humously but somehow was released too soon and is not dead due to this book.

    Ravi Zacharis mentioned buying this book.

    I am a relatively new Christian, was an agnostic for 49 years. Got knocked around enough in life to finally drop to my knees.

    Am now a bit obsessed with Jesus and Islam and learning and I do not fear for myself but my kids and grandkids futures in America because of the left-wing media’s love of Islam’s movement and ultimate plans.

    I watch CBN, a Christian News station that pointed me in the direction of the youth in France forming an organization against Muslims and are a bit mad at the older generations for allowing this to happen and also are angry at the financial problems Muslims have caused and the bombing of churches etc…….much as in America we voted for Obama and the financial problem my kids will inherit. CBN let me to that French site which led me to Logan’s site.

    Hey by the way, I was watching “The History of us” on the History Channel the other day. I knew the media wants to change history but this floored me and I emailed the History channel and they ignored me.
    They go into history of the world and speak of the Christian Inquisition and how Christians took back Jerusalem and other countries but completely leave out the war of the Muslim Conquest in the (what?) 600s or 700s. To a thinker what were the Christians taking back if the History channel didn’t even mention it was first taken away?

    I won’t watch the History Channel anymore,they lie.

    Seems to me that either left-wing channels are either ignorant of facts or want Islam to take over the world by not revealing the truth about what Muslims did and are still trying to do and covering for them. This political correctness will be the end of all except for Muslims. I totally do not get all the secrets.       There was no “Christian Inquisition.”
      The Crusades were carried out and kept up by secular authorities.
